Paths of Wood and Pearl

for flute, prepared piano, violin and cello

Paths of Wood and Pearl (2010) was written for The Peärls Before Swïne Experience (Pärlor för Svin). The main idea of the piece is pitch and non-pitch. Starting with a narrow pitch material, the piece is going through a pitchless part with percussive sounds in focus. Finally the music ”opens up”, allowing a wider range of pitches. Throughout the piece runs a path of rythmical basso continuo, alternating between the different instruments. The piece was comissioned by The Peärls Before Swïne Experience and the Swedish Arts Council, and was premiered in October 2011 at the festival Sound of Stockholm. In 2021 the piece was performed and recorded at the festival Svensk Musikvår by Ensemble MA and released on the album Lunaria (Blue Music Group).
