Reed, chanting

for oboe and tape

Excerpt of sheet music.

Reed, chanting for oboe and tape was written for Dimas Ruiz Santos (part I, 2007) and Magdalena Fronzcak (part II, 2008).

The piece was selected to Nordic Music Days in Stockholm 2012, performed by Kennet Bohman.

Part I explores the multiphonics of the oboe and concentrates on timbre and harmony. The tape part consists mainly of ringmodulations of the multiphonics. In part II (played attacca) the ”silent” sounds are exposed; air, keyclicks and simultaneous song.

Durata 13′ (part I: 8’10”)

Program note (English)

Reed, chanting (2007/2008)
for oboe and tape

Part I of Reed, chanting explores the multiphonics of the oboe and concentrates on timbre and harmony. The tape part consists mainly of ring modulations of the multiphonics.  In part II (played attacca) the ”silent” sounds are exposed; air, keyclicks and simultaneous song. The music is also figurative, melodic; a development of those less obvious elements in part I. The parts are also more independent, as opposed to the fusion of instrument and electronics in part I.
